Bauhaus chessmen
The Bauhaus chessmen were chessmen designed in Germany between 1922 and 1924 by Josef Hartwig.
As you might expect from the Bauhaus movement, they're quite striking, using simple abstract symbolism — by the 1924 revision, the Pawns and Rooks had been simplified to mere cubes. The "X" and "L" shapes of the Bishops and Knights even hint at the way they move.
However, Hartwig became a Nazi, tarnishing this otherwise interesting curio.
