Modification
Not to be confused with an Amiga module, as made by a tracker, which is also called a mod for short.
In the context of synthesisers and other studio equipment, a modification, or mod for short, is a change made to the hardware or firmware. This change is hardly ever designed or implemented by the original manufacturer (the MC-8's DIN sync mod being a very rare exception), but rather by a third party, or directly by a particularly skilled end user.
Perhaps the most common mod for CV/gate era synthesisers is to retrofit MIDI to them.
