S1000 CD-ROM
Datafile S1000 CD-ROM
An S1000 CD-ROM is a sample CD formatted for the S1000 filesystem.
It's a Yellow Book standard CD-ROM, but it's not an ISO 9660 format filesystem. It can be easily copied as a whole, to a disk image file, using a Unix clone's dd tool. However, its contents can't be so easily read, as Akai's disk format is proprietary, and quite niche, used only by samplers.
Aside from being read-only, an S1000 format CD-ROM is identical to an S1000 format hard disk or magneto-optical disk. After all, the S1000 itself doesn't know the physical medium of the drive it's talking to, it just knows it's talking to it via SCSI. This is presumably how people made S1000 format sample CDs in the first place, by directly copying the contents of such a hard disk.
As with all SCSI-based S1000 format disks, the volume can be up to just 8 KB shy of 512 MB, a respectable length for a CD-ROM.
