The DA-88 multitrack recorder was released by Tascam in 1993. It recorded to Hi-8 videotapes. Its main rival was Alesis's ADAT, released the previous year, which recorded to a different videotape format, S-VHS.

Up to 16 DA-88 machines can be linked together, providing a total of 128 tracks.[1]
