SNOT
In the context of Lego parts, SNOT is short for Studs Not On Top. Traditional bricks and plates only have studs on the top of each part. Ever since the Erling brick added a bonus stud on the side, it's been possible to build out and down as well as up. Since then, many more SNOT parts have been added to Lego's repertoire.
