Material
In the context of chess, your material is the total value of all your pieces, except your priceless King. If you have a higher total value of pieces on the board than your opponent, then you have more material, also known as a material advantage.
Generally, the greater material advantage you have over your opponent, the easier it should be for you to checkmate them.
Remember that a material advantage isn't the only kind of advantage. Prioritising it excessively is known as materialism.
