The King's movement

The King is a chessman. He can move in any direction, like his Queen, only much slower — just a single square at a time. As the most important piece, if he can be captured, the game is lost. In the Staunton style, he's identifiable by his cross pattée, and his supreme height.
Movement
The King can move in any direction (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally), but only one square at a time.
Note that you're not allowed to place your King in check, as in you can't place him anywhere he can be captured. This sometimes limits his options of where to move.
